The bulb forming alliums will need to be planted in the fall. Deep pots are most suitable for alliums. Consider spreading a 2 inch 5 cm layer of agricultural grit or spent compost at the bottom of the hole before laying the bulb inside. Alliums will grow perfectly well in a well drained soil.
